The quality of the beam is great, a lovely bit of wood, the perfect size, with good fittings that were easy to install. The reason I have only given 3 stars is the Danish oil finish appeared to only be one coat and didn't seem to have been applied to the ends of the beam, we recoated with Danish oil ourselves. Also there were no installation instructions included with the beam which would be helpful to have. You can find them on the website but it would be helpful if a print out was included with the beam. It would also be helpful to have a suggestion included to check the minimum distance from the stove with the stove manufacturer, as we installed the beam the first time, found it got really hot, checked online and realised we were slightly closer than the minimum distance from combustibles required so we had to take the beam down, order new fixings (as the originals were damaged removing them from the wall) and then reinstall a few cm higher. All in all we are very happy with the finished beam, but it did require a bit of extra faffing/effort from us which could have been avoided if instructions were supplied and if the beam had been thoroughly oiled.

Due to the inadequate packaging only 3 stars. The large staples where obviously inadequate for my 2 x 2ft shelves as the whole parcel was falling apart when I picked it up from the parcel force depot

The beams themselves are beautiful. Fitting is easy. However i bought 4 beams 1 came with a saw mark at 2 ft, obviously was almost cut at the wrong size. When I contacted them they said it was done on all beams to give the rustic look. However this is false i have 4 beams only 1 has the saw mark. I do like me beams. Wouldn’t be ordering any more though due to this

Hi Gemma, sorry to hear you were not entirely happy with your purchase from us. The shelves that you are ordered are made to look more rustic and we do tend to leave circular saw marks in to add to the rustic effect as specified on the description on the website and it is also shown on the photos. Perhaps our oak range may have been better suited to your taste.

Quality and delivery is very good. I was however a little disappointed in the colour as it was a lot darker than I thought it would be. I ordered a natural oak but it was very dark.

Hi Teresa, thanks for your review. We are pleased to hear you are happy with the quality and the delivery of your beam. I have checked your order and you ordered the colour Medium Oak not natural Oak. If you are unhappy with the colour you have ordered we do have a returns period of 30 days where we can exchange your order for the colour light if you prefer or issue a refund.

The pictures on the website aren’t great. They make it hard to tell what you are going to receive. The wood is nice however, the fixings onto the wall aren’t great. They make it very hard to fit( and my dads a builder)

It was fine at the point of dispatch but sadly the courier appears to have dented the surface top edge

Hi Laura, I have checked our emails and we do not have anything from you. I can see you ordered a colour sample which was posted 1st class via Royal Mail on the same day, sorry to hear you have not received it, unfortunately on rare occasions post can go missing which is out of our hands. If you had of contacted us we would have sent another one straight away. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

The shelf is fine but the delivery time was poor. When I ordered it was in stock but it took 3 weeks to arrive. I missed my grandson's birthday.

Hi Margaret, thanks for your feedback. I am sorry for any confusion but all of our items are handmade to order as specified on our website and your order left us well within our estimated dispacth time. I can see that you did email us asking for us to speed up your order but as advised unfortunately this was something we were unable to do as we were in our busiest time of the year. Sorry for any disappointment.

We ordered 2 oak shelves from this company which arrived in good time. We did not however unpack them until the joiner, who we asked to come and fit them for us, came (they are very heavy and we wanted to make sure they were fitted properly). When we unpacked them we found no fixings at all and not enough brackets. We rang the company who apologised and posted the missing items straightaway. The issue was that the joiner still wanted paying for his time even though he could not fit the shelves and the company refused to reimburse this cost even though it was their fault. Due to this we felt let down and will not use them again. The beams are nice but one is slightly shorter than the other even though we ordered the same size for both. Another reason why we will not use them again.

Hi Dave, thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear you did not receive enough fixings/brackets. It would have been good if you had opened your order upon receipt so we could have rectified this for you promptly and have all the components there for you for when your joiner arrived. We do advise on the website and order confirmations not to book and fitters until you have received and are happy with your order and that we can not be held responsible for any fitter fee's, I am sorry if you missed this information. We are sorry you have felt let down on this occasion.

The wood quality and finish are very nice, but we're going to have to add brackets to the shelves as it doesn't seem like they can hold much weight on their 'floating' capacity. Wish I had known earlier, as we would have bought bracketed – and deeper – shelves to begin with.

Ordered one oak floating shelves. Things that can be improve, the wood itself needs further sanding, it was rough and can visually see it that is rough. The major issue I had with the product was the fixing, where one of the pole was drilled off centred making the shelf level to be a pain.

Hello, I have checked your order and you ordered the rustic pine flating shelf - not oak. The pine shelf is supposed to be rustic as specified in the description on the website. With regards to the fixings, please see step number 7 on the instaltion instrucitons you received: The screw part of the bracket is positioned slightly off centre to the main body of the bracket allowing you to make minor adjustments for levelling. Place a spirit level on the beam/ shelf and use a 10mm spanner to make any minor adjustments to level the beam.

Nice looking shelves and delivery/communication was good but in order for the shelves to go on the wall, we have to improvise a little. The holes drilled into the shelves were too big for the silver bracket so we had to wrap cello tape around them so they would insert better otherwise they would have moved around. After the shelf was up, within 1 day of having items on the shelf, it started to tilt forward. When checking, the silver fixing had become loose yet the screws were still at its tightest. We had to find the thinnest of materials to wedge in between the fixing and the wall which helped bring the shelf back straight but we’re going to need to use a different fixing because it is starting to lean again and if this doesn’t work, I’ll need to purchase a bracket which defeats the object of a floating shelf. Disappointing.

The oak beam we received was delivered on time, correct dimensions, prompt customer care and the quality seems good. We were however really disappointed with the colour of the beam. In my opinion is was some way from the examples i had been guided too on the website and the colour chart i was sent via email. I did go back and fourth with customer care on this matter but they disagreed with my view, and we didnt get the outcome i was after. We are left disappointed, i guess just be aware the colour of beams can vary quite a bit from the images on the website. They do note this, but i was still surprised. Other reviews seem great, like i say we were just disappointed by the colour not being as we imagined.

Hello, thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear you are disappointed with the colour of your beam. You ordered the colour light which is simply a clear coat of wax to enhance the natural colour of the oak. Oak is a natural product so it does all depend on what tree it has been cut down from, we do try to be as transparent as possible regarding the colour variations online which was also made clear in emails and on the PDF colour chart you received. A photo was also sent to you before your order was dispatched which was approved by yourself. You did have the beam for 2 weeks acclimatising to room temperature which would have been the perfect time for you to return for a refund, unfortunately we can not accept items back once they have been installed. I am glad to hear you were happy with our customer care team & the quality of the beam and we do hope you manage to sand your beam down & re-finish with a colour to suit your preference. Take care, Catherine

Ordered the beam on the basis it would be delivered before Christmas then when I chased it I was told it wouldn’t be delivered before Christmas and I shouldn’t have been told that. It arrived and is exactly what I ordered, it’s lovely. Product lovely, customer service not great.

A bit disappointed, the beam/mantel is very deeply cracked to the point of splintering on the underside, but it's fitted now, I'll live with it

Hello David, Thank you for your review. Cracks are a natural part of air dried oak and each beam can vary in terms of cracks and other distinguishing features. We do try to be as clear as this is possible on our website. We don't send out beams with cracks that are excessive however if anyone does receive something they think has perhaps slipped the net in terms of excessive cracks we would always appreciate the opportunity to put it right and look into this and advise what is and isn't normal. If the crack is normal but you were not happy with the overall look we do accept returns proving the beam hasn't been installed. If it was cracked excessively and should not have reached you, we would have replaced this as quickly as possible at no expense to yourself so it's dissapointing you haven't brought this to our attention to look over and check out for you. We are a tustworthy company and try hard to make sure all our customers are happy.

The beam took a long time to arrive. The beam was very nice but colour not like website. The holes in the wood ready for the screws had not been drilled properly so luckily I had a joiner on site who could sort the problem out.

Hello, given the current climate we are up against and the unusually high amount of orders we received (tends to happen in lockdown) we believe our estimated dispatch time is very reasonable as all of our items are handmade to order. Our website is also always up to date with any estimated dispatch times and you order was delivered within the period stated. I am sorry to hear your shelves were not drilled deep enough (there could have been a slight build up of sawdust) and you found your colour did not match our website, Oak is a natural product so natural colour variation is to be expected. Please feel free to send us a photo and we will certainly look into this for you

If it was for the beam alone (aged oak, 4ft, 6x6), I would give 5 stars - it's the real deal, heavy, solid and looks amazing above our stove. The problem is with the fixings supplied. All stoves now require metal studs behind them, not wooden, and the fixings are for the latter. In addition, the holes drilled into the back of the beam for the supplied rods are not the standard stud distance apart! Absolutely bizarre! We had to rout 3 channels in the back of the beam for brackets we had made and buy our own fixings for metal studs. We also got some hollow wall anchors to be sure and a good bead of strong adhesive. Like I say, great beam, but why supply it with fixings that no-one can use?

Hello Clare, Thank you for your review. I am pleased you are happy with the look of your beam. In regards to the fixings I’m sorry to hear they are not what you expected. Unfortunately not every fitting situation is the same and it is impossible to provide a 'one size fits all' solution. The fixings provided with your fireplace beam are suitable for solid masonry walls, we find this is the most common scenario. The fixings are also suitable for fixing into timber stud work which may be the case with a false chimney breast. We don’t allow for any standard spacing like you’d find in a typical stud wall. We’ve found that there isn’t a common stud spacing when it comes to false chimney breasts. We’ve found this varies enormously. In which case we usually need to be told where the fixings need to be positioned. The only scenario we can’t provide a full fitting solution for are false chimney breast constructed from bolt together steelwork. You can however source your own self tapping steel screws which would work perfectly well with any of our fireplace beams that are supplied with keyhole brackets. Many thanks Rebecca

Hello, I am sorry you are not happy with your order. The original beam you ordered was finished in the colour light. this means that all we did was put a clear coat of wax on the beam (no stain) the difference in colour was the natural colour variation in the oak which is not a defect and very normal, each piece is unique, however we agreed to make a replacement free of charge for you but couldn't cover the cost of the original return and reshipping cost because there were no defects with the beam. Unfortunately the second order was damaged during transit. From time to time this is inevitable and unfortunate which is why we agreed to replace the damaged beam free of charge including free shipping and free collection of the damaged beam however you turned down this service. I hope this makes sense and I am sorry for any inconvenience. Many thanks, Rebecca

I was unhappy about the way my complaint was handled. Basically I felt that I could take it or leave it. I was not really given any help at all.

I am sorry to hear you were not happy with how your complaint was handled however on this occasion the beam your received is completely normal and does look brilliant! I have attached a photo to this review for reference. The crack is in no way excessive and looks very much like photos we show online. We also state online distinguishing features can not be treated as defects. We are expects in the oak beam industry and would not send anything out that we feel is unsuitable. We do accept returns but as there is nothing wrong with the beam we would expect the return to be organised by yourself.
