7 Wonders: Duel Reviews

In many ways 7 Wonders Duel resembles its parent game 7 Wonders as over three ages players acquire cards that provide resources or advance their military or scientific development in order to develop a civilization and complete wonders. What's different about 7 Wonders Duel is that, as the title suggests, the game is solely for two players, with the players not drafting cards simultaneously from hands of cards, but from a display of face-down and face-up cards arranged at the start of a round. A player can win 7 Wonders Duel in one of three ways: each time you acquire a military card, you advance the military marker toward your opponent's capital, giving you a bonus at certain positions; if you reach the opponent's capital, you win the game immediately; similarly, if you acquire any six of seven different scientific symbols, you achieve scientific dominance and win immediately; if none of these situations occurs, then the player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Works well for 2 people. Takes the right length of time, and so it keeps you on your toes without being lost by boredom. A good strategic game which you can personalize if you so wish.

7 Wonders:Duel has quickly become one of our favourite games to play. It's fairly easy to learn and play but there is quite a bit of depth to it.

So enjoyable and colourful, and the definition of "simple yet challenging". There's a nice puzzle each turn for what's the best decision, and the decisions are meaningful - should I grab something shiny now, set up for later or block my opponent's plans? One of the best two-player games I've played, easy to teach and quick to blast through a best of three, each of which can feel quite different and in each of which you feel like you're improving.

7 Wonders Duel takes its inspiration from the bigger game of the same name, but draws in the focus to an amazingly tight and fun experience for two players. Changing the drafting from card passing to cards played on the table in various formations during the three rounds, with some face up and some face down. When all cards are removed from a face down card it flips over, potentially giving your opponent new opportunities. Rounded out with three different ways to win Duel gives you a great two player game with some proper decisions.

If you enjoy PC games like The Settlers or Civilization, but feel you need a break from the screen, then 7 Wonder Duel is certainly one of the best contenders. The theme is very immersive, it has lots of replay-ability, great art on the cards and pieces. Great fun for two!
