The Quacks of Quedlinburg - The Herb Witches Reviews

Wolfgang Warsch is having a great couple of years with his new releases being eagerly anticipated. From the almost not a game The Mind, to does what it says on the box roll and write Ganz Schon Clever, he spanned the genres but never seemed to lose the game's approachability.
The Quacks of Quedlinburg was another success. It was just as simple to play but had a bit more going on. It won people over with its cool theme and push your luck gameplay. The game sets you up as enterprising potion makers who are looking to sell their latest concoctions to the crowds. Of course, if they should contain some rat tails to to top up the liquid, then that's fair game.
In a round you draw ingredients from your bad to make your potion. You'd then sell that potion to buy new ingredients. You need more ingredients because your starting ones aren't going to get you the big bucks.
The Herb Witches Expansion not only adds a new ingredient, but also new ingredient books. Books give your ingredients different powers so the game has tons of variety as you could mix the powers up to your suiting.
The titular Herb Witches also provide powerful one-use actions for each of the players. But should you decide not to use them you will be rewarded with end game points.
During the game your ingredients went on to your player board cauldron. You could by the end of the game actually fill your cauldron but now with the expansion you actually get rewarded for being efficient with your ingredients. It’s a smart and confident expansion that adds enough new stuff without drowning you in new mechanics. If you enjoy the game already you should definitely pick it up!

Herb Witches is a great expansion to Quacks. Brings even more balance to the game and great to have some more recipes. The witches are a great addition, and we found the new ingredient gave a great way to catch up when someone inevitably gambles and falls behind when their cauldron explodes. Thoroughly recommend it

This expansion doesn’t add a ton to standard gameplay. The mechanics aren’t especially exciting. The base game is good enough you don’t really need this.

Quacks - Herb witches: great expansion which adds a good amount to the original game by introducing witches, locoweed tokens and new ingredient books, plus in these new post pandemic times (this review May age terribly - Aug 21) - adding a fifth player to the mix. A reasonably priced expansion adding to an already excellent game. Zatu: ordered and delivered well packaged and promptly too. My go to place to buy board games at the moment.

Takes a great game and adds a lot. New ingredients and the herb witches that add additional scoring options at certain points in game. Also allows you to up the player numbers. If you like quacks this adds even more replay ability, well worth it.

Like has been said elsewhere, excellent expansion for quacks. If you have quacks, you need this, if you don't have quacks you need both!!
