The second game in the Escape the Dark series, Escape the Dark Sector is a simple, sci-fi adventure game with a focus on atmosphere, storytelling and player cooperation – perfect for newcomers to tabletop gaming. It takes about 2 minutes to set up, lasts around 45 minutes, and no two games are ever the same. Playing as the beleaguered crew of an impounded starship, players find themselves confined to the detention block of a vast space station. Using a variety of advanced gear and weaponry, they will embark on a desperate mission to find their ship and blast their way home. Along the way, the crew will have to overcome a variety of dangers, traps, and terrors. From cyborg guards and faulty replicators to killer alien organisms, each challenge is represented by a large, beautifully illustrated chapter card. As these immersive chapter cards are revealed one by one, the game takes on the form of a shared storybook experience, with the players making decisions about what to do each chapter before using a combination of dice and item cards to complete the task before them. The goal of the game is to complete every chapter, and then defeat the final boss. To win, you must keep each member of the crew alive - if any player is killed the game ends immediately!

Almost as quick to setup and almost as simple to play as Escape the Dark Castle, but with more tactical possibilities! The ranged combat, flanking, cybernetic implants and extended inventory make all the difference! Love it!

I don’t think this game is for everyone. It is technical, tough and quite wordy. But for me it’s wonderful. I love the video game, adventure feel to it. Really fun game for me.

Top game, worth playing dark castle first to learn the basic mechanics as combat in this is a little more advanced, still fairly easy to learn!

The rules are simple and easy to pick up, which was a pleasant surprise. The card art has a retro feel to them (and brought back a few memories of teen-years in the 80s spent playing DND) and we found the game play to progress smoothly and with very little need to refer back to the rules. There is plenty of replay to be had in the game and am now looking forward to any future updates expansions.

This was the first board game I have bought of this style. I wont go too much into a review here really because undoubtedly people will look up reviews on YouTube. Instead, I will give you a couple of tips to really get the most out of this game. In its "original form" with the standard rules the game is a 3/5, but you can make some tweaks to the game to make it vastly more enjoyable. The first thing you should do is remove the power/brain/speed Stim cards from the item deck, this is because these cards are essentially completely OP and pretty much game-breaking, I have no idea why they have included them in the first place. If 1 crewmember gets one of these cards you can completely negate 1/3rd of the (simple) mechanics in the game, on some occasions you can pass through a chapter instantly with no interaction whatsoever due to these cards. Secondly, you should make it so you do NOT automatically reload between chapters, instead you need to as a team decide who is going RELOAD, who is going to TRADE and who is going to LEAD, no character can perform more than one action, and one character must be the LEAD into the next chapter. This makes the gameplay way, way more tactical as going into each chapter with fully loaded weapons every time makes for very poor ranged combat usually. Finally, there is one card that is basically completely broken, it describes two rival gangs doing a shady deal in a disused hanger and has an image of two troopers firing guns at you on it. This cards mechanics involve you losing 1 item each (this will mean that the endboss will most likely be impossible to beat) OR combat in which they will hit you for 2hp each turn regardless of melee or ranged combat, and unless you have both of the explosive weapons (this is incredibly unlikely as you would not want to have 2x explosive weapons anyway, and there are only 2x explosive weapons in the game.) they are going to hit you at least 2-3 times each. Anyway, artwork is amazing, it has a LOT of replayability based on how many story cards you get, I can see it being very easy to expand upon and overall for the price I would strongly recommend it.
