“Great addition, asymetric decks using for catacombs”

“I’m late to the Clank Party and bought this as an expansion to the new Clank! Catacombs game for extra spice. It adds some asymmetric player powers giving each player some special abilities and new starting cards. These are great although you still have the basic burgle and stumble cards. Each give you something to aim for off the bat. For example the mage benefits from collecting minor secrets and secret tomes whilst the orc benefits from killing monsters. As you can see they’re quite thematic too. The ‘react’ cards allow you to play a card on someone else’s turn when the effect triggers and draw back up to five, meaning you will have played an extra card that turn. For example ‘walking wounded’ triggers when you take damage from a dragon attack on someone else’s turn… it allows you to move one space (on your turn) The extra items are a cool addition too. The invisibility cloak allows you to ignore monsters in tunnels and the key allows you to bypass locked tunnels. Neat. They sound Uber powerful but it’s always a difficult decision what to buy from the market as gold doesn’t always come freely and you will likely want a crown or the health pot. I’ve not tried it 5-6 players but will at some point. I like how quick this game is and 5-6 could make it drag. The react cards are suppose to give you something to think about between turns however. I’ve seen a lot of negativity around Monkeybot prime being over powered. I think if used by a seasoned player he does certainly have an edge due to getting a lot of passive symbols (upto 8!) each turn but he makes a lot of clank and can easily implode. It’s a two edge sword though, because if you don’t make the clank you won’t take the damage and never unlock his special abilities. My son insists being him and I appreciate the challenge. My favourite character is the mage as she can teleport between rooms and can acquire any card with enough mana points making the chance of getting extra secret tomes during play. Overall, a great expansion (for Catacombs anyway)”
