The Fox in the Forest is a two-player trick-taking game with a unique twist on the status quo. It combines strategy, hand management and just a little bit of guesswork. Each player tries to outsmart the other, whilst themselves attempting not to get caught out. Can you find the right balance to become victorious? The deck has 33 cards divided into 3 unique, and eye-catching suits, bells, keys, and moons, numbered 1 to 11. The 6 odd-numbered cards all have different benefits, you can gain extra points for playing a 7, or force players into losing a good card by playing an 11. The artwork on the cards is beautiful featuring foxes, monarchs, and swans to name a few.Each round starts with both players being dealt 13 cards and one card from the deck being upturned and declared the trump suit for that round – but be careful – playing a 3 enables you to change that suit, so keep an eye on what your opponent is up to! The object of the game is to win a certain number of tricks – winning 0-3 or 7-9 out of 13 total tricks will score you maximum points, with varying points for winning 4, 5, and 6 tricks, giving them game an interesting strategy twist. However, you mustn’t get too greedy, winning 10 or more tricks will score you no points at all, handing the other player all 6 points. The winner is the first person to 21 points, though if you are short on time, a 16-point target works equally well. The choice, then, is this: are you playing to win, or playing to lose? “A really nice trick-taking game with some amazing artwork. Often trick-taking games are restricted to 3 or more players, but this game does a good job in designing itself around only 2 players. Certain cards activating special abilities also adds to the experience. While some people have pointed out that you could construct a similar gamer with a normal deck of cards and some tokens, personally I'm happy to pay for a curated experience with nice artwork. Makes me more likely to play this than if it was just another card game among many. A really nice game to play on an evening with a partner or friend, relaxing and not too competitive. It's quick so you can play as many or as few games as you like.”

“A 2 player game which is fast to play and easy to learn. The Fox in the Forest is a beautifully illustrated game which is about earning tricks. Players play rounds until one reaches the 21 point cap. The game shares features with many traditional card games like hearts. Players take it in turns to play a suit. The player who plays the highest card wins the suit. However, players can use trump cards which have special abilities such as changing the suit. Fox in the Forest has a clever scoring system, if you win too many tricks you will find yourself losing points. Overall, this is a fun game to play, especially on the go. But if you peel back the artwork, the game is not as good as pack of cards which can offer more variety. Despite this I will be keeping this game in my collection as it is georgeous!”

“Fox in the forest is a cute little card game for 2! Its all about winning suits. However, if you win too many you might end up losing. A great play on traditional card games with a beautiful theme. Pros: - Easy to learn - Great for 2 players - Quick to play - Transportable - Georgeous to look at Cons: - There's not a lot to it if you overplay - Basic gameplay”

“The game itself is excellent but the price point for 33 cards and some cardboard tokens, even at sale price, is ridiculous. Pro Tip: Watch the Dice Tower review for the rules, modify three suits from a £1 deck of cards & use coins for tokens. Save yourself £15 in the process.”
