Two thousand years ago, the Roman Empire ruled the lands around the Mediterranean Sea. With peace at the borders, harmony inside the provinces, uniform law, and a common currency, the economy thrived and gave rise to mighty Roman dynasties as they expanded throughout the numerous cities. Guide one of these dynasties and send colonists to the remote realms of the Empire; develop your trade network; and appease the ancient gods for their favor — all to gain the chance to emerge victorious! Concordia is a peaceful strategy game of economic development in Roman times. Instead of looking to the luck of dice or cards, players must rely on their strategic abilities. Be sure to watch your rivals to determine which goals they are pursuing and where you can outpace them! In the game, colonists are sent out from Rome to settle down in cities that produce bricks, food, tools, wine, and cloth. Each player starts with an identical set of playing cards and acquires more cards during the game. These cards serve two purposes: They allow a player to choose actions during the game. They are worth victory points (VPs) at the end of the game. Concordia is a strategy game that requires advance planning and consideration of your opponent's moves. Every game is different, not only because of the sequence of new cards on sale but also due to the modular layout of cities. When all cards have been sold, the game ends. The player with the most VPs from the gods (Jupiter, Saturnus, Mercurius, Minerva, Vesta, etc.) wins the game. Ages 13+, 2-5 players, 100 minutes playing time

The quintessential beige euro. Strategy shines through and you get a generous amount of components for the price paid.

Quite a lot to get your head around, especially with how it scores but once it clicks it is such a brilliant and easy going euro. It was a game ai out off for ages but so glad I finally got to play it.

A very chilled experience which brings Euro mechanics together with interesting player interaction and card play. I love the fact it's not apparent who is winning and every turn there are the right number of interning choices to make, all of which feel worthwhile. Rare to find a game I am so happy to lose as well as win.

Although there is a bit of a steep learning curve, once we got the hang of it, it was dynamic, challenging and rewarding. A good game, but definitely one that needs a few hours on the gaming table.

It is a good game , but very lengthy. The GamePlay is fun and challenging at times and the game can end very abruptly with other players still trying to figure out what action to perform next. But, I guess that is the fun part. Also it can take time for one to understand and develop strategies to score points as it is not at all simple and there are many ways in which one can score.

While the box of Concordia does nothing to help it, the game itself is outstanding! I've had the game three weeks and played three times, often having to refuse players at my gaming group that wanted a seat at the Concordia table. The game itself is simple to teach, with only the scoring that might take a little more explaining. The game is full of agonizing decisions, and rewards well thought out optimal play. Highly reccommended!

There is a good reason that Concordia remains one of the highest ranked games on the definitive board game website (Boardgamegeek Top 30 at the time of this review); it is a great game! Although the theme, trading in the Mediterranean in ancient times, has been well used don't be put off. The rules are deceptively simple, made easier to learn by effectively being included on the cards that drive the game-play. Once you are familiar with how each of the cards work, the game moves quickly, offering lots of good options each turn. At no point do players feel they are hopelessly behind, with many different paths to victory. This is probably more of a "next step" game than one for the novice, but if you have tried the new classics, such as Catan and Ticket to Ride, and have got the bug, this is a highly recommended next step into the hobby.
