Troyes is a fascinating and challenging combination of training your followers (meeples) to do activities or positioning them within the three principle spheres of medieval life - nobility/military, religion and commerce. These latter placements provide you with workers (dice) to actually carry out the activities ... But of course you can always pay other players' workers to carry out activities for you. And they can do the same! Meanwhile events originating outside the city (within the same three spheres) have a significant impact on all players. The players deal with these semi-cooperatively - you may need to fend off attackers, deal with a theological conflict or a drought. Did I mention that you are also participating in the 400 year long construction of a cathedral? There's much to love in this game; thought provoking 'euro' game mechanics with enough Machiavellian interaction to remind you the medieval period wasn't all minstrels and tapestries. Zatu stock the latest edition - with 3 additional activity cards, 1 additional event card and solo play rules.

Brilliant euro draft dice but you can take other people's. Dice placement allows you to complete various actions to advance different scoring options. Cards change each game providing lots of replay ability. A classic for a reason.

Troyes is a dice placement game based on the city of Troyes, France. In the game you represent a rich family and you use your influence to recruit and supervise individuals from the three prominent domains (military, religious, and civil). These are represented by coloured dice (red, white and yellow respectively) which you place on the board to perform various tasks including building the cathedral, combat the events, moving to various city places (palace, bishopric and city hall) and agriculture. The game lasts for 4-6 rounds depending on the number of players and the winner is the player with the most victory points. The game is fun to play and isn't too difficult once you have grasped the rules. It works well for any number of 2-4 players. There are also rules for solo play included.

What a great game. Love the share number of options. If you role badly you can just steal someone else's dice. Lots of depth and even a hidden role mechanic.
