Mysterium, by Libellud, is a game of deduction where a group of players work as a team to decipher the true meanings of cryptic ‘visions’ sent from a ghost. It is highly thematic with gorgeous over produced in-game components allowing players to be inventive and interact with lots of table discussion. In Mysterium, players take on the roles of gifted mediums with the ability to communicate with the undead. One player becomes the ghost whose spirit is doomed to forever haunt the mansion after becoming the victim of a hideous crime. They attempt to reveal to the players the truth of what actually happened; who murdered them, how they did it and where it took place. Each medium is secretly gifted a selection of three potential combinations, noted behind the ghost players cardboard screen. The mediums are working towards their own goal independent of each other, however they are still considered as working as one team. All players win or lose as a group. The twist is that the ghost is unable to communicate in way other than give the other players a selection of highly stylistic dreamlike images on tarot cards. These are dealt to each individual player, once a round, to help them correctly identify their targets. Each card is a beautiful piece of surreal artwork, which can be read in many ways. It is up to the mediums to try to interpret the ghosts’ subtle nudges. The ghost can only present selected images from their hand of cards, which can limit what they want to say immeasurably, often to comic effect. Cards that show the potential suspects, weapon and location are placed on the table across three levels. Each round a medium will place one of their markers on a card confirming their choice. Once a player correctly guesses part of their combination they can progress to the next. Other players can also gain bonus points for agreeing or disagreeing with their fellow mediums over choices made. Mysterium continues over 7 rounds and if the mediums each manage to gather their personal combination and progress through the 3 separate levels then the final round takes place. All players’ options are revealed on the table and at this point there is one more round of visions dealt to the mediums, as they have to work out whose combination was actually the true story of what happened. If they correctly guess then the ghost can rest peacefully and everyone wins. Player count: 3-7 Time: 42+ minutes Age rating: 10+

This game is very enjoyable. It is such a great game that can be played multiple times and have very different outcomes. Would highly recommend it if you enjoy mystery games and games that involve picture cards.

A really fun, surprisingly difficult, cooperative game which really comes into its own when played with a large group. We initially played it as a two-player to get a handle on the rules which I felt helped to get a handle on the clairvoyancy aspect of the gameplay. We then introduced it to a larger group (some gamers some non-gamers) and it went down an absolute treat. A small touch, but I thoroughly enjoyed the added treat of scanning the QR code in the rulebook to access the ethereal soundtrack to accompany the game! This in conjunction with the gorgeous artwork within the various decks, to the detail of the game's components makes for a super immersive experience and one which I would thoroughly recommend. My only potential criticism would come from the use of claivoyancy tokens towards the end of the game: trying to describe their use to the non-gamers we played with proved a little confusing, so we decided to play without them, which effectively simplified the game. That being said, I think that could have been simply the people we played with, as the co-op style was quite new to them as a type of game. I would thoroughly recommend watching explanations of the game by either Shut Up & Sit Down, or The Dice Tower.

Wonderful co-op which lands well with gamers and non gamers. Super theme and evocative play. Beautiful art and production. A great experience.

Very hard to explain what you do with this game other than "Ghost tries to use pretty pictures to indicate which other pretty pictures they want someone to pick... when all the ghost's pretty pictures may as well be painted by Salvidor Dali mid-LSD-and-Mushroom binge" I have a very solid leaning towards cooperative games, and Mysterium scratches that itch in a very satisfying way. It's a very quick game that's a ton of fun, and I'm not going to lie it was fun enough for me to buy both expansions almost immediately.

Been looking forward to getting this for some time, not dissapointed. Love the artwork and design on this. Nice gameplay mechanics and can be comical when playing the ghost and trying NOT to speak. Can't wait to try this with 5+ players. Well recommended as a kind of Cluedo alternative.

Beautiful art work with a fun and interesting game concept. If you like Dixit, you'll love Mysterium! Also, rare to find a game that works so well with 7 players

We love to play this game as a family of 4 (2 adults, kids aged 10 and 12). We all like being the ghost best but playing as a psychic is fun too and means you get to work together with the others to try to solve the clues. It's a collaborative game but with lots of individual play, a really good balance.
