“This is a good expansion but when compared to some of the others, the factions aren't quite as universally useful. The Lizards are great with their ability to change others' meeples and buildings to their own but are quite complex. The Otters offer an interesting dynamic but really don't work in games with less than four players. They make a great addition but I wouldn't start with this expansion.”

“This expansion contains two main factions, the lizard cultist and the riverfolk company, which are not necessarily the strongest one in the game. However, it also contains the mechanical marquise that allows you to play in solo mode and an additional vagabond. It’s a bit overpriced compared with the main game, but it does add some extra fun.”

“This expansion has some great content in, especially if you're looking to expand play to five or six players. The lizards are a personal favourite of mine, and the otters are great at higher player counts, although are fairly useless at lower ones. As usual, the art and production quality is superb. The automated faction in this is really quite poor, if you're after mechanical factions you're better off getting one of the clockwork expansions, as they have rehashed the one included in Riverfolk to make it work much better. Overall, a pretty good expansion, especially if you're looking to complete the set or play with five/six players.”
