Taking you across the globe, battling the dark forces of H.P. Lovecraft’s fiction, Eldritch Horror plunges 1-8 players into a harrowing campaign to prevent the Ancient Ones from awakening and devastating the world as we know it. Fantasy Flight Games will take you on a conquest in which you will encounter a slew of ungodly horrors and accrue injuries to your body and mind as you attempt to repel them. In this co-operative experience, you assume control of one of 12 playable investigators to solve three mysteries unique to each of the four Ancient Ones. Each of these otherworldly beings considerably alters the obstacles you’ll face, from the insanity-provoking sea-entities of Cthulhu, to the spell-orientated gatekeeper, Yog-Sothoth. Regardless of the opponent you select, Eldritch Horror promises a challenging experience. In this box, players will have the choice of 12 different investigators, with differing stats, abilities and starting ‘assets’ which will drastically alter your playstyle. These traits can be altered over the course of the game, for better or worse. Of the 40 assets you have available, you can utilise firearms, allies and various supportive services. You can also risk your psyche to control artefacts and spells of the mythos. All of these components printed on high quality quality and emblazoned with gorgeous artwork. The gameplay itself involves moving across a map of the world, gathering clues, slaying monsters and engaging in otherworldly encounters. These are primarily performed using dice rolls, which can be augmented using the aforementioned character stats and equipment. The game is straightforward to teach, but has enough depth to stay interesting after numerous plays and remains challenging to even the most experienced players. A more in-depth overview can be found in our review, which fondly scores Eldritch Horror 85%. If you join the many others in loving this game, there are several expansions available to enhance your experience, which we would certainly encourage you to look into. To begin with, we’d suggest the Forsaken Lore expansion, which is a well-rounded little box that brings you a bit more of everything. Player Count: 1-8 Time: 120-240 Minutes Age: 14+

Eldritch Horror is an incredibly immersive investigation horror board game from Fantasy Flight Games. This instantly struck a chord with my wife and I, who play D&D and were looking for something a little different for our own gaming time at home. We have not stopped playing this game since we bought it. It has a great challenge rating, in my opinion. The artwork and tokens/cards are beautiful, too. Eldritch Horror has a level of darkness to be exciting for adults, whilst having the ease-of-play for younger or older players. This is a great scary game to play with family or friends. Prepare to lose spectacularly and love it!

There has already been a lot written about EH (Eldritch Horror) but I'll add my two pennies. I had this as a Chrimbo pressie after 2-3 years of owning and playing AH2E (Arkham Horror) and first playing EH at a friend's house. For more info pop over to https://boardgamegeek.com/. EH plays faster, is less complicated than AH2E and the expansions each add something extra to an already excellent game. I would recommend Forgotten Lore if you only buy one expansion which greatly adds to replayability. Play through EH Core a few times with the available investigators against each Ancient One, then add the Forgotten Lore expansion - hey presto! It is like having a completely new game. You do need A LOT of table space and at least 3 players or 3 investigators for a solo game. You can play solo with one investigator but a few 'Ongoing' events can cripple solo play unless you take them out after a few playthroughs, as you'll know what they are - 'Spreading Sickness' springs to mind and the 'Bermuda Triangle' which moves and Delays any investigator (on a roll of 1 or 2 IIRC) Pro's - Excellent replay value, production and solo playability, expansions, time on a rainy Sunday, value for money, Cons - Lots of table space needed, time needed to complete, story elements to the cards is sometimes skewed not keeping with the HP Lovecraft theme e.g. You help someone out and you gain The Necronomicon from the artifact deck! As if anyone would willingly give you THAT Tome of Knowledge!!

A fabulous adventure game mixing storyline with actions. Your investigators will journey around the world fighting monsters and encountering gates, trying to stop the ancient one destroying the world. The game works against you and has a build in doom timer to keep you moving forward. A recommended board game.

A game of mystery and impossible odds…..and I love it! My group of gamers can’t get enough of this game. It taunts, beats and breaks you to the core but that’s what makes it fantastic. Very well designed and illustrated. Brings in a story concept which works well for anyone who like a little depth to their games. I can also recommend the expansions along with this to add more flavour. Great game!
