Welcome to Small World, more people than space, so all that can happen now is rivalry for control of what little there is. Within Small World there are 14 different races and 20 different powers. At the start of the game, each player will choose a random combination of race and power allowing different changes to the game and a different amount of race tokens. Each round a player will claim territory with their race tokens and score points based on how many they have conquered. Eventually, each player will run out of race tokens and will have no choice but to send their race into decline, they will no longer be able to expand their influence across Small World (Unless you are the Ghouls!) and on their next turn they will choose a new random combination of race and power to conquer more lands and gain more points. A game of Small World takes place over a set number of rounds based the number of players in the game. (Even the board is different based on the number of players.) The races are classic fantasy: Wizards, sorcerers, orcs, skeletons, ghouls, trolls, amazons, elves, dwarves . Others are not so classic, like the Ratmen and Tritons. Each race has their own power; the Amazons can conquer more with four additional race tokens, the Sorcerers can convert lone enemy race tokens to their cause and the Dwarves get a bonus victory point for each region with a mine they control. Likewise, each power that can be combined with the races is unique. Alchemists gain extra points each turn, wealthy gain seven victory points when chosen, pillaging races gain an extra victory point for each region they conquer that already has other race tokens in them. Swamp races gain extra victory points from swamp regions they control. Other powers include; Fortified, diplomat, commando, forest, spirit and more! Will you be the diplomatic skeletons, the swamp elves, bivouacking ghouls or even the spirit humans the choices are yours, it's a World of (s)laughter after all! Player Count: 2-5 Time: 40-90 Minutes Age: 8+

Great fun game reasonably simple to pick up. The best bit is it does scale you really can play 2 to 5 players as there are separate boards for each player number so the space available per player is reasonably similar no matter how many players. Even if (when) you are beaten down half way through the game you will come back as that is what the game is about. Everybody can have fun till the end. There is no "I can never catch up to X's empire"

I wish I could send a mail to anyone wanting to buy risk to instead buy small world. Game is quick, fun, varied and the mechanism of going into decline makes the game so much fun as you can play with 2 or even three different combos. Risk is long and you soldier on as your forces are decimated but with no hope - this does not happen in small world as you are reborn and can use your new combo to get back into the game. Yes it is confrontational but in the many times we have played it has never felt personal which for family gaming is important. Great game and quality components.

Have only played this as a 2 player game so far. Once you get used to the setup it's very easy to learn, good fun strategy game where your choice of race/powers really makes the difference between victory or failure. The variety of race/power combinations makes each game unique, really enjoying it.

Such a good game, short enough to get out on the table regularly but with enough variety in the powers/races/player counts that it's a new experience almost every time we play. A firm favourite already!
