Gloom! Card Game 2nd Edition Reviews

Read Zatu Games Reviews

Prepare yourself as you enter the dark and miserable world of Gloom, created by renowned RPG designer Keith Baker! You, the player, take control of one of four, miserable families, all as eccentric as the each other and full of misfits and misanthropes. During a game of Gloom, you have one simple goal: To ensure your family has the most miserable and sad time possible before meeting their untimely, yet rather comforting demise. It is said that the quality of afterlife is made better by the gloomier of existences beforehand, hence the need to put your family through the worst days of their lives. Use cards such as 'Mocked by Midgets' to lower your families' self-worth and make them feel unwelcome and unloved and just utterly miserable, while at the same time trying to boost your opponent's families, making them feel joyful and happy with such events as weddings which rapidly increase a players self-worth! The player with the lowest family self-worth at the end of the game will be declared the winner! Printed on rather unique transparent cards, Gloom allows players to place modifiers on cards with other players able to see the modifiers throughout! While this game may sound miserable and depressing, don’t be fooled by the deceptive title! Player Count: 2-5 Time: 60 Minutes Age: 13+

Gloom is a really unique game. Using plastic transparent cards, you try and lower the self worth of your family and higher the self worth of your opponents’ families in order to kill them off for the lowest score. The fun of stacking the cards and changing the values throughout but the real fun is the storytelling element. The game encourages you to tell stories about what is happening to the characters with fun titles on the cards and absurd situations. My young nephew loves it as well as most adults I play with. A great addition to the collection.

A grandly gloomy, very funny game. There's just enough strategy to maintain interest but the real strength comes when players get into their roles and get the OTT grim and gory stories flowing.

Excellent game. The story telling aspect lends an extra element of interest and engagement... Often hilarious. Beautifully designed cards - I love that they are see through, it helps me keep track of what's going on so I don't get frustrated/disengaged with complicated rules and decks. May terrible misfortune rain down upon you.

Really fun game to play with friends who don't normally enjoy roleplaying. I found that you can get some superb relationships between characters and we ended up matchmaking where we were trying to allow the sweet embrace of a miserable death, so that they could be together - until someone decided to resurrect Helena Slogarth and made her insufferably happy. What a macabre scene that was.

A card games that involves creating a story around each of your characters while trying to kill them off. Dark humour welcomed. Not one for young kids
