“This was my first order with W&H. I ordered on a Sunday night, and the gilet was despatched the following morning, with free delivery. Impressive.
I'm normally 38S for jackets/waistcoats. I ordered the XS (36-38") and it is a perfect fit over a shirt. If you want to wear it over a heavy pullover I'd try a size up.
The tweed (60% wool) is a perfect medium-weight for a gilet. The tailoring seems excellent, the press-studs heavy duty as is the (plastic) zip. The zip has two zippers, the upper one having a large thumb ring which is a useful touch.
The bellows pockets are relatively small but in keeping with the item being a gilet and not a shooting jacket. The handwarmer pockets are roomy although lined with polyester, rather than something warmer like cotton.
The gilet is lightly padded so adding a little extra warmth and comfort. There is only one internal pocket - a simple square of the polyester lining material. But it's large and functional.
I found the colour (on my monitor) to perfectly match the pictures of the full item on the website. I did not find the little square thumbnail pictures on item webpage to be accurate at all.
I can't comment on the water-resistance of the Teflon-coated thread as I'd not wear a gilet on its own in the rain.
Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase. Excellent quality, made in the UK and a most reasonable price.
I shall be buying the matching shooting jacket, but note that the jackets have a different sizing - the 36"-38" is XXS.”
