“I've been using 3 of these for a few weeks with a Z-Wave Aeon Labs Z-Stick USB Controller (Gen5) and OpenHAB. So far this setup has been extremely reliable for switching sockets on/off. I've never seen them miss a single command and the latency is pretty much non-existent.
It's possible to configure these plugs to shut down automatically if power usage goes above a certain threshold, basically turning them into adjustable fuses - an interesting safety feature.
I also found it amusing these plugs provide a downright absurd amount of data about mains power - not just power usage, but also instantaneous voltage, instantaneous current, and even power factor! Not that useful perhaps, but better to have too much data than too little.”
“TKB are a good choice for the budget conscious - while other makes such as Fibaro and Aeotec may offer loads more features and look snazzier, when you're trying to kit out a whole house with smart sockets you'll appreciate the price difference!”
“I've had various iterations of these plugs over the years, and they are on the whole way more reliable and less prone to failure than everspring or other equivalents.
Also, unlike the greenwave plugs, they do actually report power while being a switch, but there is nothing configurable about it - 5% difference in voltage or power means it will send a report.
I've configured mine to not be associated to notify the controller, so I only obtain power readings on a 10 minute poll due to this - as you'd be surprised that most household devices do vary in power usage constantly, so you'd get the plugs constantly reporting.
I'm using HS3 with a UZB controller for those interested.”
“I have bought a few of these from Vesternet a couple of years ago and have had three fail in the last few months despite not having used them extensively - not being switched on/off more than a couple of times per week.”
“Yet another device that is so frustrating to include. It truly re-inforces the fact that zWave is not for your average consumer. Plug and Play it is not.”
