“I bought this to migrate from SmartThings as it seemed to offer what I wanted looking at the reviews and manufacturers information. Initial setup and registration was a pain - you’re asked to enter your UK postal code but it doesn’t work and you can’t move forward without entering a location. I had to trawl the internet for a solution so it wasn’t a great start for the Hubitat. It has some good features such as Rule Machine but they take some getting used to. Driver and app support is nowhere near as good as SmartThings and if your device isn’t officially supported by Hubitat you may struggle, relying on the community to provide a solution. At the moment I’m having major issues with Z wave inclusion as the security pop up is not appearing when it should causing devices to join the network with S0 security which is not wanted. Also the Z wave routing whereby I have a device 2 metres from the hub connecting using the maximum 4 hops through devices at the other end of the house. The community say “leave it a few days it’ll settle down” or power it down and try again. I don’t recall ever having to reboot my SmartThings Hub in the last 4 years. I hope it sorts itself out but I may be unplugging it and refiring up SmartThings.”
“Excellent bit of kit which eliminates the limitations of Smartthings and Echo approaches. The support videos are very helpful on set up. Rules engine is powerful and makes it easy to address real world use cases.”
“Powerful platform especially if you are a technical user. Active online community and almost real-time support by Hubitat staff with regular driver updates.Hub is competitively priced.”
“What a great product does most things also free security monitoring at no cost
My family are safe and the heating control keeps our home warm when its cold”
“I have tried many Home Automation systems over the years - Vera, Home Assistant, SmartThings, Fibaro, Deconz and now have settled on Hubitat as my main Hub. Firstly, all automations are local with no cloud dependency which I think is vital. Secondly, the amount of devices covered by either in-built drivers or community written (and free) ones is better than anything else I have tried. I primarily use it for Zigbee devices but is now also has the latest Zwave 700 chip if you need Zwave too. Although only a smallish company support is excellent and responsive and the user community is very active and helpful.”
“Pretty sure I had already done a review here, but asked again to do it.
But in case the first went amiss.
There is an issue with postcode when setting up, just enter first 4 digits and set the location manually in Settings layer.
I bought two one to manage heating and hot water the other for everything else.
Really really like them.”
“Had a few hundred devices to move across so knew it would be a challenge.
The first challenge was it demands you enter your post code. If you are in the UK you are now stuck as every postcode in the UK is invalid. So just enter first four characters and put in long / lat later.
HUBITAT are aware this is an issue and will address it in a later release.
The next challenge is finding device drivers and Apps. This is one of HUBITAT’s biggest flaws, it takes some effort to find the pages in the forums that have quiet a good list of community device drivers and apps.
Start with HUBITAT Package Manager - a community app that makes a lot of this easier.
Lastly the HUBITAT community is awesome incredibly helpful and supportive.
Word of advice, if you have run into a walk and are frustrated, count to 10 before posting, likely to get more help being nice than angry!
Oh use the community Hue app cocohue rather than the built in one it is much better.
I bought two, one to manage all the heating and hot water systems all zwave and the other for everything else.”
“I have been using Vera Plus for couple of years and it was slow and often need to reset for various reasons. It is just unreliable. I have shortlisted HE or Homeseer Pro. I just want a device that works. Ok lets be honest , none of the system working out of the box with all the devices I have. Although community / 3rd party support probably cover most of my needs. So I went for the cheaper option.
HE works very well for me. It is very responsive. The customised dashboard also work great for me too. Since moved to HE I have also moved most of my device to Zigbee as well. You can get Zigbee device for a lot lot less than the Z-wave equivalent.
The only thing I am hoping to see is if they could continue to expand their native support devices.”
