“I have this working (now) with my Fibaro Home Center 3. To begin with it didn't work but, after some back and forth with Fibaro, they have added support for this device. The readings don't exactly match up with the main house meter but I guess some variation is to be expected.”
“This looks like it is well made and I had a previous version in my old house, which worked well.
This latest version is which is maybe a bit small foe whole house/load monitoring but I thought I'd give it a go because I know we will never pull more than about 35 - 40 amps.
Our meter tails are double insulated 25mm2 cable, which is correct for 100amp+ installations and normal practice for newish installs.
The problem is that the CT clamp is too small to fit on the 25mm2 cable so for many installations this unit is not suitable.
I'm sure it would be excellent for monitoring individual circuits but to do that with these would cost a fortune!
For those wanting larger CT's, you can buy "special" units directly from Aeotec for around £100 + shipping and import duties from the US!”
“This is an excellent product, providing realtime power consumption and accumulating kWh usage. The Z-Wave connection reaches my hub from across the whole house without issue.”
“Clamp meter was easy to fit, connect into my existing z-wave network and does exactly as is expected. Detailed breakdown information is provided at very frequent update intervals for kWh, voltage and current. The only slight issue was that the CT clamp was a little small for my double insulated tails - I needed to remove the first layer of insulation.”
“While it needs an electrician to install at the consumer unit, this allows the device to monitor the AC waveform which means it can tell which direction the current is flowing.
That's important if you have a Solar PV system installed as you can then tell when you have excess power being generated as the device can detect when you are exporting electricity to the grid.
By knowing this you can then control your other devices around the home to turn them on only when there's excess power - for example I turn on phone chargers and laptops to charge. I also have some success in controlling the immersion heater via an Aeotec Heavy Duty Switch, which lets me heat our hot water when the electricity is free from the sun :-)”
