Writing this mostly for those out there which are on the fence and are looking at the plucker thinking "is this for a factory", "how well do these things even work", or "how much time do you even save". I can't answer the question on if it's worth the money, but I can tell you that it's well built and I'm sure there's not a tremendous amount of money being made on each unit by the factory. Inside is a good quality 0.3hp motor, the build quality is rock solid, and I'm sure you could abuse it for years to come. But for myself, as someone who just goes out beating in the season and gets their fill of birds it's completely changed how much I'm willing to take on. No more breasting - it's not even much quicker any more! On average it's taking me around 5 minutes per partridge, and I'm very certain you could go quicker if you wanted or needed to. As someone who is awful at plucking, and enjoys it even less, it's been an absolute revelation. No more plucking for half an hour to rip the skin at the last moment and end up breasting it anymore. The only skin rips I've had have been from birds that already have broken skin from a breast shot. I've yet to try it on pheasant which I know has tissue paper skin but have high hopes. It does indeed need a decent power workshop/wet-dry vacuum. I gave it a go on a lower power battery one (Ryobi 18v) without much success, have since hooked up a 1200w DeWalt and it's clear that the vacuum isn't just for getting the feathers out of there - it's integral to how well the unit can perform. If you're on the fence and can spare the cash, I'd heartily recommend it, but don't forget if you don't already have a high powered vacuum you'll need to invest an extra £50-100 to get it up and running well. For me I did the maths, and this thing will have paid itself off fully in a season or two just comparing it to how much it'd cost to get dressed game at the butchers.
