Seggiano basil oil is made by stone milling fresh organic basil leaves together with organic olives at harvest time, which is very unusual and makes a rich but subtle tasting green oil. Most producers add basil essential oil to olive oil, which makes a very different product and might be what you were expecting to taste. As basil flavour is experienced mainly through the nose, the aroma from the essential oil will give a more defined basil ’taste’, but the basil leaf polyphenols would be lacking.
