“I would have given the Blacksmith Black Ball Plain Stair Rod 5 starts except for a minor issue. The screws supplied to install the rods were standard silver-colored screws with slotted heads that were painted black. Of course with slotted screw heads the screw driver has a tendency to slip out and when it slips it scrapes the black paint off the screw head leaving a silver surface that doesn't blend well with the rest of the black hardware, leaving it looking sloppy and leaving black paint chips all over the installation area. It would be so easy for the company to supply black oxide screws (I bought 100 for $7 from Amazon to replace the un-usable screws that came with the 13 rods I bought) that hold up to the rigors of installation and use phillips heads so that they can be easily driven in with an electric screw driver. Hopefully they'll read this and make this improvement in their product. Otherwise, the quality of the rod and brackets were top-notch.”
