Oral HRT is licensed for use in women who have not had a period in 12 consecutive months. They usually contain estradiol, which helps to replace oestrogen deficiency and a synthetic form of progesterone. Some tablets contain both hormones; some have a 14-day cycle of a single hormone with a 14-day cycle of combined hormones or can contain the only oestrogen.
