If you like hard-wearing and still very comfortable boots at a bargain price, excellent quality.and a smashing service to boot - next day delivery if you order early enough - you can't go wrong with buying them here. These boots are still hand-made in Austria by "Steinkogler" for the Austrian army to keep their feet warm and dry in deep snow and temperatures below minus 20 degrees Celsius. (Bought new they cost between 189 and 199 Euros.) The hard- wearing thick leather is sewn together by hand. Their soles are are triple-stitched to the uppers and can be replaced, and they are thick and tough but not too hard to make walking uncomfortable. The internal foot and heel area is lined with soft leather, you can wear them even without socks or use them as slippers without ever getting blisters. I am size 46 or UK11, the sizing is generous enough to wear two pairs of thick wool socks, or one pair of wool socks and two insoles each if you like it snug. Theses boots are almost indestructible when taken care of. (If you wear them every day a second pair to give them time to dry would be handy.) I use castor oil and bees wax containing leather balm to waterproof and condition the leather outside. To prevent the sweat of your feet from drying out and causing cracks in the inner leather lining make sure to condition it too from time to time with e.g. avocado or olive oil. Worn with wool socks - I prefer the British army arctic socks all year round - they are comfortable and keep my feet warm and dry all and every day indoors, and ourdoors whatever the weather Many thanks to the team of Forces, Uniforms & Kit
