Brilliant jacket for travelling/hiking. Lots of pockets. Well made and should last ages. The sizing guidance on the website is spot on. Great service.

It looks exactly like it appears on the website. There are no visible marks on the jacket but the zip fastening does look a little used. The jacket is unlined so it will require layers underneath if it's cold. It has lots of pockets with zips or button flaps - including large Napoleon pockets - so lots of storage. I bought one on the stated chest size in inches and it's come up a little loose (a smaller size would have resulted in a snug fit). It makes a fine, reasonably smart, lightweight casual jacket.

I am not sure what the definition of an alpine jacket is. However, in general they appear to be a parred down version of the full spec garment which tends to mean fewer/smaller pocket, no hood or possibly a much simpler one, possibly shorter in length and maybe some features such a pit zips left out. Whilst the alpine version may not be capable of handling the harshest winter conditions (which the full spec version possibly can), it may well be better suited to the autumn, spring and summer seasons and have the advantage of being lighter in weight and (possibly) lower in price. I got this jacket after buying the M65 version in both cotton and Goretex. The M65 combat jackets are absolutely top quality and built to an incredibly high standard. This alpine version is of a very similar quality to the M65 cotton combat jacket, however, it is noticeably lighter. There are still lots of pockets but they are significantly smaller and all the external ones have zips instead of flaps and buttons. Being a lighter jacket it is not as warm as the M65 combat version, but is adequate for all but the very coldest autumn and spring days when worn with either a fleece, synthetic or even down vest. I did not find it comfortable to wear with decent weight wool jumper, as is was too tight around the shoulders.. Although it is not particularly warm it is showerproof and absolutely windproof. It is not really a jacket for typical winter weather. Although there is no hood the storm collar is a really nice feature being high and thick (double layered) and it can be closely cinched in with two pull cords each having a toggle to secure them.

I really like this jacket, the material feels very hardwearing and looks good. I would say its a medium weight and looks good when wearing my hoody underneath , I wish I'd bought the M65 at the same time and saved on the postage. Definately recommend.
