“To be fair, this review is specific to my car which is an Audi S4 B8.5. I've always had a little oil consumption with using Catrol 5W30, perhaps a litre every few months especially if giving the car some beans.
However, with this oil it's been excessive since doing the oil change:
First was 3 weeks and 520 miles
Then after 2 weeks and 380 miles (I did do a lot of hard driving during this period)
Then finally after 2 weeks and 510 miles
I appreacite that today's oils are thinner for extra fuel economy and emissions and it doesn't help that AUDI cars are notorious for some oil consumption, but this is crazy.
When pouring a litre in just the other day it was very thin looking, so I'm going to try a different brand next time. I must stress, it may be fine for other cars that don't have to worry about oil consumption.”
Hi,
Yes, those engines can be a problem when it comes to oil consumption, but a bit odd that it is worse with this oil though. I just had a look at a few oils that meet the same VW specification and they are all pretty similar in viscosity, all within 0.2cSt of the same viscosity as this. If this was 1.0cSt of more thinner, you'd expect a difference, but 0.2cSt doesn't really explain it, as the Motul is marginally thicker than a lot of the others.
I think the best thing is to go for a 5w-40, as a lot of people do with those. That thicker oil will make it less likely to burn off.

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT+/EE Performance, Motul 8100 Power/300V and Red Line. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife/Trident Professional, Liqui Moly Leichtlauf, Castrol Edge/Magnatec, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Petronas Syntium 3000, Comma Syner-G, Valvoline SynPower, Shell Helix Ultra, Elf Evolution/Sporti and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.
