I wore these for 8 days walking the West Highland Way in all weathers and terrain. I would recommend breaking these in first though as I found them to be quite tight around the toes at first.”

In the beginning of my hiking days, my feet were less picky. I would lace up a pair of decent running shoes and hit the trail. Sometimes that was fine, but other days I paid the price with blisters, swollen toes, rolled ankles, and cactus needles to the sole. No fun! I tried almost every boot that REI had available without finding a perfect fit, but I was determined to keep searching. REI is great, but there had to be options I hadn't tried yet. I just knew it!
Arizona has lots of amazing little mountain towns located north of Phoenix. I was visiting one for a work event and decided to wander around the downtown Prescott area before heading back home to the valley. Little did I know I would find my perfect pair of boots in a small, community hiking store with lots of brands that REI did not carry! I tried on the Lowa Renegade in my size and they felt wonderful on my feet.
The Lowa Renegade GTX has so much cushion! They're comfortable and lightweight with a thick sole and supportive arch. My toes had plenty of room at the front of the boot - this was an issue in other pairs I sampled and no squished toes here. The mild calf height gave extra comfort and support, so rolled ankles wouldn't be a problem either.
I marched around the store taking a few laps fully knowing these boots were coming home with me. I probably walked around the store wearing them longer than the employees felt was normal for a test drive but I was in my hiking boot happy place - no judgements please! I forgot to mention these Lowas are also fully waterproof and I've tested that out on many fishing trips. I don't hesitate to walk right into the lake ankle deep and my feet stay dry!
The Lowa Renegade is all about comfort, support, and stability and that is why I now own two pairs!”
