“For B3 boots, they are very comfortable to walk in. They are almost like "heavy" hiking boots.
They are fairly lightweight for mountaineering boots. Only a bit heavier than my Caminos.
The Vibram is very deep and it is good on many surfaces.
The lacing system is fantastic. The laces are way better than in Renegades or Caminos boots but I think they can still be a bit thicker. Unfortunately is not possible to buy the same replacement laces or insoles from Lowa UK.
I like the feeling they are closer to the ground than other brands.
Size-wise, size 11 UK is the same as 10.5 UK Lowa Camino Evo GTX or Renegade 10.5 UK. Initially, I bought 10.5 UK but they were too small. The insoles in Alpine Expert 11UK are identical to the insoles from Camino 10.5 UK My advice is to size up 0.5 size UK
I would call the fit medium to wide which fits me very well. No hot spots, no rubbing, no pressure points.
Grivel crampons fit them very well. In my opinion better than Petzl crampons. I had no chance to climb with them yet, just walking with crampons on.
So far Lowa's are the only boots I did not have to change insoles. But not because the insoles are so good. Because the boot profile fits me very well.
To my surprise when I removed the insoles I noticed a rubbery bottom with a very nice profile/arch support. They should mention that in boots futures, I have never seen that before.
They are synthetic insulated boots but I would not use them in very cold conditions especially when stationary. I used them recently in -10 C in the snow in nice weather and when I was stationary for a while I was getting cold in my toes and I was wearing medium merino socks. So depending on the conditions I would draw a line in temperature between 0 to -5 C.
I would say they are more like mixed terrain, do it all boots.
Overall I would highly recommend Lowa Alpine Expert II boots.”
