“A couple of years ago my friend pestered me to get a Weber smoker but I bought a very cheap bullet smoker online - it was rubbish. I modified it a lot to try to copy the Weber Smokey Mountain design. Well I sort of got it to work but was very hard work. I did learn a lot about trying to control the temperatures!!!
He kept badgering me and I finally ordered a WSM 47cm (18") to get me through my prostate cancer treatment - sort of a therapy for me. Well I had to wait over the christmas/new year closures for it to arrive so I got stuck into youtube and viewed hundreds of BBQ and smoking videos.
The day it arrived I had it assembled and I did my first BBQ smoke. WOW is all I can say. What a difference to my el cheapo model - it went on the tip next day!!
The new WSM is so fuel efficient, easy to control temperature and just a brilliant unit. A few weeks later I bought a weber kettle and a year later I bought my second WSM - the big daddy 57cm. I got the bigger one to help me cope with smoking Christmas gammon hams that I accidentally started selling last Christmas as I decided to expand my product list. Now I use them both for doing all sorts of smoked products and absolutely love them both. The 57cm uses a bit more fuel but it has 60% more grate space so can fit in loads more.
(BTW - within 14 months I had 6 weber smokers and kettles in my arsenal) Plus I started a smoking group as well and always there to help people.”
