Here’s what Digital Camera Magazine said about the LX100 when they compared the best Large Sensor Compacts:

"The newest camera on test, the LX100 combines everything that is great about the Micro Four Thirds range with a versatile 24-75mm zoom lens. Plenty of control options, including a traditional aperture ring and shutter speed dial, can give way to full automatic when you want to concentrate on composition.

An excellent built-in viewfinder makes this feel closer to SLR shooting than some of the other compacts in the group, and the view inside is clear and bright. There’s also built-in Wi-Fi for remote shooting and quick sharing of your images. The only major downside is that the screen isn’t touch-sensitive.

What’s good: A superb viewfinder includes a sensor for detecting when the camera is lifted to the eye.

What’s bad: There’s no room for a built-in flash, but one is supplied in the box.

Verdict: A dream for enthusiasts. 5 stars out of 5."

I brought my first LX100 back in January 2015, it was brought just for the times when I did not want to lug my DSLR and Lens around. But since owning it, I have grown to love it. I have taken it all over the world on my travels and love the low light capability for when I'm at music gigs, it also my companion for when up in the mountains where weight has to be accounted for. The images from this camera printed at A3 has won me many awards in international photo salons, so I was not very happy when last month this camera started to have a sticky lens, but it has had a lot of use in extreme situations. But after looking on the internet, I realised that this original mark1 version was still available new ( I do not not need touch screen and the slightly smaller MP gives better low light images as far as I can see). So I opted for buying this mark1 camera, which I know does the job and that I can use it almost blindfolded.

The LX100 Mark 1 I bought replaced the previous one (2 years old) that I had but damaged beyond repair in a fall. The main reason I repeated the purchase was in part the price - but mainly because it is simple and uncomplicated to use. As a compact It is also very inconspicuous yet high performing. The Mark 2 is more expensive and complicated. I also like the offer of accessories offered by Wilkinson

It's great to have a digital camera that feels like a film camera. OK, I'm showing my age, but having knobs instead of menus does make using the camera so much easier! Great pictures with plenty of control. Some limitations - WiFi instead of Bluetooth! Why not Bluetooth? It works so much better. Indeed, I have not so far managed to use the WiFi , and judging by what you find on the internet, nor has anyone else. Panasonic do not seem to sell a case for this camera so had to make do with a cheap ebay one. I do have one proper gripe that would affect my future choice - the dreadful cash back deal. Easier just to take the £50 hit!!!
