This is a clever piece of kit for digitising photos that converts positive transparencies – from 35mm to 120mm with the included frames – and colour and black and white negative film of those sizes into digital files. Epson software allows you to do quick, low-quality scans to identify pictures and assess their appeal and then to switch to a higher resolution of your choice for storage or reproduction. A great feature of the software is the way you can choose the setting to remove the colour bias of negative film – orange for Kodak – to produce a natural colour digital file. You may want to tweak a bit more with photo editing software to improve the final version, eg increasing the contrast. High quality scans are slow, several minutes to convert 6 negatives. The ideal workflow is to scan film on the computer while doing another task. It's also worthwhile to buy a second film holder to set up the next scan while dealing with the previous one. Exciting to bring back pictures from years ago, decades in my case.

Good quality scans. I have found it difficult to work with my Mac ‘Big Sur’ programme so can only scan one photo at a time!

Results and speed are good especially with colour slides but film is a different matter. The frame into which negatives go is very poor in design and construction. There is no way of registering negs so that scans don’t overlap.. The insertion of neg strips is very fiddly and difficult with strips which are even slightly curled.
