The near 30x optical zoom is why I bought the HX99 to complement my RX100iii. Both cameras are similar in operation. The HX99 has a smaller sensor and a smaller minimum aperture so not so good for low light. The HX99 is tiny which makes for difficult button selection. I disabled the red video button which can easily get pushed accidentally. For my purposes I use the two memory facilities or shoot in superior auto, usually therefore being able to preset before taking pictures. Apart from differences mentioned the HX99 provides the quality and options of the Sony RX100iii.

An excellent pocket camera with a very long zoom. Superb quality photos & video. A lot of custom modes which I haven't got my head around yet but thanks to YouTube I'm getting there. Such good value for money. Really looking forward to getting out & about and enjoying this smashing little camera.

Bought the camera to replace broken DSC-HX60V which had given good service on quite a few trips in various countries of the world. This has a similar zoom, but has extra features such as a digital viewfinder. It doesn’t have the satellite location feature of the HX60V, which is a little disappointing and the flash does feel a little fragile. The viewfinder does have the drawback that you have to pull it back to use it after popping it up. It’s a little more complicated than the HX60V, but still pleased with it.

Found it a very small and compact camera - Unfortunately as my hands/fingers are large I found it awkward in manipulating the various buttons and found not havinbg an eye viewfinder harder to frame a photo with the sun shining on the LCD screen - The camera's images were very good quality
