“After doing some paddleboarding on holidays i've been tempted to buy an inflatable board but have been put off by the price of decent kit - when i don't know how much use i will actually get out of it yet - and the obvious cheapness of the cheap kit - that means it would probably be a waste of time and money! However, after seeing the end-of-season sale prices on the Wave board packages - and having read the reviews which all referred to the quality of materials, features and accessories that were included - I decided to go for the Wave Woody 11ft in Navy - as it seemed like a decent all-rounder for a taller/heavier rider - and I preferred the unique 'wood-grain' look of the board compared to all the brightly coloured ones - plus it had the cargo net needed for a dry-bag and a camera mount for a Go-Pro and extra 'D' rings to add a kayak seat later if i wanted to do that - or for more storage potential if I fancied a bit of touring, etc.... I haven't been out on the river yet - as i'm waiting for a wetsuit and buoyancy aid i've ordered - but having unboxed it and pumped it up to test everything out - it certainly doesn't disappoint in terms of the look and feel of the quality of the board and paddle and pump! It's extremely rigid at 12-13psi and quite a bit lighter than the last hire board I used - which bodes well for carrying it some distance down to the water from the car park. Even the bag looks like it was built to last - and was surprisingly easy to get everything into once i'd deflated the board again (the kit didn't come packed in the bag when it arrived in the box - which worried me in case it would be like Tetris getting it all in there!) and they even included a quick release strap to hold the rolled up board together for you - so i'll report back once i've been out on the water - but so far so good - and thank you to Wave for allowing me to take the plunge (no pun intended) without putting a massive dent in the bank account! :) UPDATE FOLLOWING USE - I’ve been out on the board a couple of times now - and it’s great! Lighter to carry than the last hire board I used and seems quick and manoeuvrable on the river whilst stable enough not to have fallen off yet - despite some wind/chop and waves from the odd passing motor boat. Remain impressed by the quality and robustness- and the cargo bungee/d-rings are invaluable for holding a dry bag with keys/drink/microfibre towel etc. Great bit of kit - love it!”
