My time in Sri Lanka was great! I was picked up from the airport and brought straight to the Aasha house in unawatuna. The Aasha house is where all volunteers live. It's a big Villa with a pool, a garden and terraces with a great view of the sea. I immediately felt at home here! All volunteers were somehow always in a good mood and there was always a very pleasant atmosphere. I made many new friends and never felt alone. The turtle project was great fun too. You work closely with the turtles and see what a difference you can make. The whole organization works very well and the trips on the weekends are always varied and interesting. My highlight: the elephant safari . Coming to Sri Lanka to the Aasha house yu was definitely the right decision :) I'll be back!

My experience has been a bit disappointing. In the hospital I have not been able to be in the radiology department, which was what interested me the most; I don't know if it was due to organizational problems or due to disagreement among its members. On the other hand, and knowing the prices in Sri Lanka, I do not see the price we have paid reflected in the quality of the services offered. It's a shame for me, because a priori there were several other projects that seemed interesting to me, but after this experience I don't think it's worth it.

I had the most amazing experience volunteering in the Turtle Conservation Program in Galle. Pre departure support and communication from the VS team were excellent. It was great to stay at the volunteer villa in Galle and meet other participants from around the world. Overall a really enjoyable experience which I will cherish always.

The best week of my life was the one I spent with my daughter at the Elephant Project in Kegalle Sri Lanka with Volunteering Solutions. It was such a privilege to spend time with these amazing creatures and their kind, capable handlers. Feeding and bathing the elephants were definite highlights. Learning about them, participating in vet checks, and even cleaning their beds were great experiences too. On alternate days we taught English and songs to girls in an orphanage, visited Pinnawala elephant orphanage, a spice garden, and a tea factory. This was all arranged by our wonderful host Rosiee who planned and oversaw all that we did in Kegalle and with the elephants. She is a kind, sweet, interesting and helpful woman who made us feel at home, exposed us to lots of new things and made our stay run smoothly. Rosiee is a great cook and one day we had a cooking class with her where we made delicious Sri Lankan food. Our trip was well coordinated from the time we arrived until we left and Rosiee was helpful with things everything like getting us to the ATM and helping us with travel plans. We were there during the rainy season which was nice because it broke up the heat. Mosquitos were plentiful so be prepared. (I wished I had brought mosquito bracelets which supposedly are non toxic and work even when wet.) Sri Lanka is a 3rd world, jungle country lacking some of the comforts we take for granted, so come prepared for an amazing adventure! I have already recommended this project to multiple people because it is so wonderful.
