As always, Volunteering Solutions delivered a great deal. I was very impressed with the beyond comfortable living conditions. I was provided two meals each day by the house keeper. All of the meals were western-diet compatible. In addition, the airport transport was provided as promised. Despite my flight being almost two hours late, the airport transporter was there waiting for me, incredible. The host also made great efforts to check the status of my stay and my work. I was very glad to participate in this travel experience.

I LOVED KENYA! Please don't take my review as all negative, there were way more positives. So, it is really difficult to rate this trip with one number. We spent most of our time at the orphanage, a little bit at a school, and of course traveled to the Masai Mara for a safari. The work experience, compared to others I have done, was poorly planned, and poorly followed up on. I think that Joe, our program coordinator, means well, but there were people there choosing what to do and where to go/when to go if at all. Many went to a mall all afternoon. We stayed at the orphanage from 9 am to 6 pm.most days. It was tough, but real, and I am glad I had that experience. He (Joe) did not seem to know if we were working at the orphanage or not, what that was like, and how we got from place to place. The volunteers take care of each other in that way, in Kenya. Joe was reliable in -airport travel, the weekend experiences that were included. But, in terms of the work, it seemed Joe just thought ...:whatever...do whatever. So much of being there is what you make of it, but as it compared to other programs in terms of having someone there to help and implement the most effective volunteering project, I would not say that Kenya is a strong program and Joe is not a strong leader at all. It is an amazing place and I had an amazing time, and the orphanage could not have been more impactful, but you want the coordinator to know your program, know your hours, help you get there, make sure you are comfortable getting there.... Nairobi is fantastic, but sometimes, one trip on a bus rout with a guide isn't enough to know where you're going, and being left to figure it out with volunteers who've been there for a week longer, isn't what you feel is the best. Loved the food, the accommodations were fine, I thought, I just think the follow through/leadership was lacking.

I really enjoyed. It was a very good time. I hope I had given the little ones as much as they gave me. Makimei needs more support - progressing, I believe. Margaret and Rachel are engaged and housemothers are dedicated. Regarding Volsol, Joe Ngugi is very kind and available. Everything was fine - accommodation, food, visits to the parks. I am pleased to be part of. Thank you for your project. Keep in touch. Kindest regards, Joana Barata
