Independent testing found the 1500W BioSari Marble Infrared Heater brought the temperature in a 10m2 room to the ideal temperature of 25º C in around 60 minutes, while oil-filled heaters of similar wattage took around 2 hours to heat the same sized room to just under 20º C. There is a thermostat to regulate the heat and the remarkable storage properties of marble means the BioSari heater will continue to emit up to half an hour after it has been turned off.
It's a 1500W element, so if turned to high it will use 1.5kWH of power in one hour. Peak rates are around $0.30c per c, so it would use a MAXIMUM of $0.45c per hour. With the thermostat set so you had the unit cycling ON/OFF for roughly half the time each (or 50% duty cycle), then running cost would be approximately $0.22 / 23c per hour.
Any 1500W heater running flat out will cost exactly the same to run. The benefit of the marble heater will be its heat retention characteristics. For example, a 1500W bar heater, to retain a set temperature, will be 'ON' constantly. However, the BioSari Marble Heater will heat to the set temperature, then shut off the element. The heat will slowly begin to dissipate to a certain, predetermined temperature, then switch on and remain on again until the 'set' temperature is regained. It will continue to cycle in this way.
NOTE: there are significant differences in ON and OFF peak kWH rates.
