“The guarante that I go by is the consumption by the birds (and squirrels) in the garden. They all disappear rapidly so I know that they fit the bill as far as the birds go! They look fresh and tasty! (almost tempted to try them!)”
Good Morning,
I am sorry that the bag of chopped peanuts you have been sent contained elements of other mixes, we'll certainly investigate this, and I shall send you a direct message.
“Well firstly we need to look at the 'whole' peanut alternative. Whole peanuts which can choke nestlings if fed without being broken up by the parent. A way round this is to offer them in feeders which adults can peck at and reduce the risk. However, peanuts fed in this way invariably go rotten after just a week or so and can poison both the adults and the nestlings.
The alternative is chopped peanuts. They can be fed in a normal seed feeder, are safe for chicks and the uptake is such that they are never there long enough to go rotten in the feeder.
I now feed chopped peanuts regularly along with sunflower hearts and the results are spectacular. A garden full of birds and nearly always 2 broods of fledglings returning to the garden .. sometimes 3 !”
