Ground Guard Reviews

The top of the Ground Guard opens easily for refilling. Available in two mesh sizes, the large mesh excludes all large birds, such as Wood Pigeons and Collared Doves. The small mesh will help keep out most squirrels and starlings. Both mesh sizes fit our ground trays and hoppers. 56cm wide x 37cm tall

The product is very good but be careful to read the small print! We bought the small gage cage by mistake, and then realised blackbirds are too big to get through the wire. So, make sure you buy the correct size of cage, depending on the birds you are aiming to feed. We now have both sizes so all are happy!

Works a treat to keep the larger birds and squirrels out.

Larger than I expected. Also expected lots of activity but it seemed to scare the birds away. After a week birds came to feeders but stayed away from guard. As yet I’ve only seen a robin enter the guard. I hope after time it will get used.

I've ordered the cage for small birds to keep the starlings out while feeding mealworms for the smaller birds. Well, it didn't work, about 1/3 of the starlings manange to get in and even after using chickenwire to block the entrance from the three bottom rows one starling still gets in. (That explains the reduction in stars.) On the package was no indication if the guard was for small or larger birds. Otherwise, it's built very sturdy, was very easy to assemble (just adding a few clips) and it's very spacious. The lid on the top is very handy when placed on the ground; I've mine sitting on top of a wooden compost box, so it's a little bit of a stretch for me. There is no need to anchor the lid, so one hand can openn it without fuss while the other puts the food in.

Initially it seemed to work to keep out starlings but they persevered and found their way through the side of Guard.

Great quality. Works well. Worth the money just to watch the fat wood pigeons getting more frantic as they dash round it faster and faster! Blackbirds and everything smaller get in just fine.

Very disappointed the grey squirrels can get through the cage. In short it's an expensive waste of money.

Hello Thankyou for your feedback. Sorry you are having trouble with grey squirrels getting into the small mesh ground guard. Juvenile grey squirrels can get into the ground guard ,but as they grow they will find it a struggle. There have been case`s where young grey squirrel`s get in the ground guard eat what ever food stuff is in there ,then find they are unable to get out. If you have squirrel problems like this please check no squirrels are left in the ground guard and if going away remove the ground guard until you return. Kindest Regards Vine House Farm
