Our 8 mm waterproofing membrane kit has everything you need for tanking basement walls. Wykamol cavity drain membranes are also great for using on floors prone to high groundwater levels or persistent moisture. What is an 8 mm Cavity Drain Membrane? The CDM is an 8 mm high water-resistant sheet with 7 mm deep studs at 25 mm centres. The stand-off studs create a constant drainage gap. The void's volume is almost 5 litres per square metre. There is an 80 mm wide flange to ease the sealing of overlapping sheets. Our 8 mm membrane kits come in two sizes, each 20 meters long. The 2m high roll unwinds to a 40 sqm sheet. The 2.4m high version uncoils to give a 48 sqm membrane. The kit includes 40 or 48 sqm of membrane, 200 nylon brick plugs plus seals and one roll of waterproofing tape to seal the joints. How do you use 8 mm Waterproofing Membranes in Basements? Cut and hang the membranes like wallpaper. Instead of using a paste, fix them to basement walls using nylon brick plugs with waterproof seals. For floors, lay the roll like you would set Lino. Use waterproof tape to seal the joints on both surfaces and at the junctions between them. Type C Waterproofing. Basement waterproofing membranes form part of a sealed tanking system. The system must manage and dispose of water entering a building behind the membrane as per BS 8102 : 2022. Our Wykamol 8 mm cavity drain membranes are BBA approved for Type C waterproofing.

The membrane itself is a strong product, can withstand loads meaning cutting (with stanley knife) is easy, and it holds shape well. The fixings are good, with integral seals. Have had no problem as an amateaur in fixing. The price of the material was very competitive. We are using it to provide a ventilation membrane to solid brick walls, to allow moisture from the walls to be ventilated up and into the roof space which is fully ventilated. As we don't intend to handg the (very thick) insulation off the membrane, this simple one layer type is suitable; we will use a steel stud wall system to support the insulation separately.
