The finished fitted shelf looks beautiful, and enhances the kitchen decor enormously. But my goodness was it a devil of a job to fit! This particular shelf has three deep-drilled fixing holes along the back edge, which are meant to locate snugly over three corresponding long pins you set into the solid wall. The problem with this design is that the shelf hole diameter is only 1mm greater than the pin diameter. Now, even a skilled DIY-er would find it difficult to drill 3 holes in a solid wall that are located to an accuracy of +- 1mm, both vertically and horizontally, and also perfectly perpendicular to the wall. You might do it with luck, but my luck was out that day. The result is that having screwed in the 3 pins, I found it impossible to slide the shelf onto them. The pins do have an adjusting system which allows them to be rotated with a spanner to alter their position slightly (in theory to level the shelf). But try as I might, this was way too little to solve the problem. In the end, I had to flex the pins using a piece of rope and a screwdriver to act as a tourniquet. This altered the distance between two of the pins enough to slide on the shelf! The plastic wall plugs allowed the pins to flex slightly, luckily. There are other fixing systems available for floating shelves which make installation far easier, as they don't require such precise drilling, and I will be using those for future floating shelf projects. But I have to say this company's natural wood shelves are beautiful!

Thanks for the honest review of your experience Alan. The feedback for the floating shelf supports we supply is overwhelmingly positive so it does come as a bit of surprise to hear this. The fixing holes need to be only 1mm larger than the fixing pin otherwise the fittings would be too loose. Larger shelves can be a bit trickier to fit as there’s multiple fixing points so you do need to be accurate. Like you mentioned there are other fixing methods available but they’re not cost effective. We always appreciate constructive feedback so we’ll certainly take your feedback on board and continue to look to improve our products.
