I use a raspberry pi as a file / git / dlna / vpn server, and another one for off-site backups. Some initial experiments seems to indicate that my new pi 5 could do a good job as a vnc client. I need to get more of these :-)

Certainly feels nippy compared to the RPi4. My needs are for a silent fanless no moving parts always on computer to host a simple set of websites. The RPi4 is great and the RPi5 will be better. In the Argon Neo case it runs silently and I assume is not throttling when in normal use e.g. fairly idle! I think the early setup phase could be improved specifically with instructions for how to procede if a USB mose nd keyboard are not to hand. For example how or will it connect automatically when virgin, to an open WiFi? I use a TV as the monitor. It was very perplexing to me that the VNC connection seems to turn OFF when the TV screen is turned on and off requiring a reset to ON the the raspi-config e.g. by logging in with SSH! The networking implies a VPN is simple to set up now but only if you have the right plugins but where are those to be found? No clues are given! I did get WireGuard working but only by using the command line and a profile I have made earlier. The ability to configure by a QR code would have been great (as it already is on Android). I'm sure there are many upgrades now that are different with Bookworm and help with understanding the differences would be helpful. I enclose some thermal camera photos of the system idling on my desk. Overall I am impressed. A worthy upgrade on the RPi4 and at a similar price.

In one word: fast. Less HW decoding options, but I feel a definite upgrade compared to the RPi4. My Nextcloud instance feels less like a makeshift hobbyist project and more like an actual paid-for solution. I'm not sure why there are fanless cases being sold, though - this thing gets a lot toastier than the RPi4, and you'll definitely want sufficient cooling to get the full performance boost you're paying for.

Super fast compared to the 4 which was no slouch. Really awesome. Not a fan of the micro hdmi, but understand why they had to put it in. Faster micros sd is pretty awesome too.
