Using this as my browsing machine. A bit of a learning curve and not all great for a linux novice.

The Raspberry Pi 5 is a powerful upgrade with a very usefull power-button. However, it runs noticable hotter than previous models. It's great for enthusiasts who want more power for projects, but may be overkill for simple coding/homeautomation tasks.

The Pi 5 was everything I hoped it would be. I'm a retired IT programmer / analyst and I started with the original Pi in 2013 as a tool to play with Linux, Python, and electronics. The new Pi 5 adds the dimension of a powerful desktop environment to my playground. I'm about to purchase my second. The ability to boot from high-speed SSD devices on the high speed bus is awesome. A real value for the money spent. Get one.. no two.

I give few 5-Stars. As single board computers go, this is compact and is capable. 8 GB of Memory is adequate for many Linux applications and probably is fine for most any general user, but I do wish that a 12 or 16 GB RAM was an option for somewhat more complicated activities pursued to the end of computing. The card layout is very clear and the reversed position of the USB and Ethernet ports can be understood as required to the design, but having retained the same relative positions as in Raspberry PI 4 would have made case designs a much more simple situation and the application of case purchase or recylcing all the easier. Oh well. No problems with the function has been encounterred or is expected.
