“Excellent. Get one. The 8Gb RP 5 runs 4 times faster than a 1Gb RP 3B+, which runs at about 5% of the speed of my main AMD PC. So the RP 5 is running about 20% of the speed of my main AMD PC. The first Raspberry Pi with enough compute power to be seriously useful for my needs. The RP 5, for about £75, makes buying any new AMD PC for more than about £400 look very questionable. And it does all this on a 27 Watt power supply. Good bye, Intel & AMD !”

“It's got a 5 in the name, up to 8Gb of RAM, a power button and real-time clock... and the Ethernet port is on the correct side again. Finally. Get the SSD HAT and watch it fly. It's seriously quick.”

“At last a Pi that can replace a Windows device. The optimisation of the USB and network components has given the Pi 5 the response that earlier Raspberry Pi's lacked. These improvements also mean that the Pi 5 boots in just a few seconds from the Pi micro SD card. The new power switch is a great improvement although it is not obvious that it works because the red power LED is on while the Pi is turned off. When you think this through you realise it's a good idea, but one that is not obvious. The 8Gb version is can support multiple apps and multiple browser windows without slowing, something I find very useful when working with big spreadsheets on the web using my Microsoft 365 subscription. The Raspberry Pi 5 definitely works for me and is looking to be the replacement for my Windows 10 PC when Microsoft withdraw support next year.”

“This will be my Docker backup device. And with the Rpi connect tool, an easy way to get homelab access without having to port forward. Combined with the pinehat layer case and the pimoroni nvme base it is now cleanly working away providing resilience and added peace of mind. Much quicker than the pi4, it could easily be a low end PC desktop replacement. Well packaged, delivered quickly.”
