It would be interesting to compare this official touchscreen with other available touchscreens for the Pi. This one was decently easy to put together and a breeze to get to working with Rasbian. However, it is easier to operate the default Rasbian desktop with it than Kodi, despite me testing with a number of Kodi skins (most of them with touchscreen support). Thus, it works great as a Pi display, but the touch function seems rather application dependent.

The picture quality is superb; however I cannot get simultaneous display via the HDMI output (using a VGA monitor & VGA-HDMI adapter) - hence only 4 stars. I've tried various things in config.txt, any help would be appreciated. You need large buttons for touch screen to work, but I always intended to use a mouse anyway.

Official Raspberry Display is easy to setup and work with no additional configuration. Image quality is high enough, contrast is good. After having installed Kivy, multi-touch is working with only few configuration, help and tutorials are available on Internet. Electric consumption is maybe a bit high : Raspberry + WiFi dongle + Display + Sense hat is more than 2A and may lead to errors and freezes

Excellent construction making a neat package when the Pi is mounted on it. Good clear screen, bright, good colours.

Installing took about 15-20 minutes (thanks to the online instructions)after realising when way the ribbons went on (the small clamps on the boards were a bit fiddly but got there in the end). Very pleased with the end product! Beats sharing my monitor between Pi and PC.
