Pi2 2nd generation + openelec = excellent, responsive media player based on KODI. No fan so no noise, minimal power requirements and it plays every file I have tried. Recommended.

After much hassle with trying to get one from PC World and having to return 2 of them with little help, I am happy with the kit I purchased from The Pi Hut. It was cheaper that the others, has better leads and case and more importantly it works! Thanks you!

Finally got my Raspberry Pi 2 model B working as a media centre but it has taken me a while. The downside is there are virtually no instructions so I tried to fit the Pi into the wrong part of the box which broke the SD card. The official wifi adapter still does not work so I have installed an ethernet cable and the little Pi seems a gem. Early days but finally satisfied .

I ordered the starter kit to build a Plex Client - a front end to our database of DVDs and Blu-rays (A digital jukebox of movies, tv shows, documentaries and comedy). We ripped our disc library onto an old desktop computer which we set up as a server (this is its second life as it was originally a games machine - sadly tech moved on and it wasn't worth upgrading it). Using Plex (http://plex.tv/) we can stream our collection to any device in the house (smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc)...except our Samsung TV. The TV had a Plex App but it didn't work with some of our older shows because of the format used. It also suffered from buffering issues. Using the Rasplex software (http://www.rasplex.com/) and the Raspberry Pi 2 Starter Kit we were able to quickly build a Plex Client to hook up to our TV. I'd originally planned to buy a 'USB to Gigabit Ethernet Adaptor' but even streaming Blu-ray's fails to tax the 10/100 network on the Pi so I scratched that idea. The big bonus is that the TV remote controls Rasplex thanks to the Samsung Anynet+ HDMI CEC standard. I'd recommend a Raspberry Pi Plex Client to anyone thinking of using Plex. It's fast, the menus are really smooth and attractive, its very easy to control and will handle the most detailed media in your collection without breaking a sweat. I was especially impressed that all I needed was the bundle and the whole lot came to just £40 on special offer! Great service and a great product!
