It does exactly what was claimed, simple to control. I had the soldering kit and the board was laid out well, had no trouble soldering it even with my modest skills. Only (very minor) gripe is that they could perforate the PCB a bit better. Separating the tree pieces from each other for the final assembly took a good amount of gnawing at it with my clippers to get them apart.

Put it together and not all LEDs worked on the wings. Turned out it is sensitive to the exact right angle soldering of the connectors on the wings. Got it to work in the end and had fun programming various modes using the examples found on Github. Will still recommend it. It is really fun to see it work.

Don’t really do festive, Humbug, but this little kit sparked sometihng of my maker side and has been flashing away over Xmas with the help of a Pi Zero W and a Poundland phone charger! Easy build and just works - will be trying a coyple again next year with different LED styles... :)

Really fun to experiment. I have created a script that will make the lights blink when there is WiFi activity. I use the Pi for Guest WiFi and this way you can "monitor" the usage ;-) The intensity of the LED's is dependent on the bandwidth used. https://mysuseproject.blogspot.com/2018/12/3d-xmas-tree-wifi-activity-monitor.html

I bought the pre-soldered tree as a fun xmas present. Simple to assemble and attach to pi 3A+ inside a rainbow coupe case. The suggested python script works first time - for added effect I added the script to the pi startup so it can be powered up off a portable power source ('lipstick' battery for me) and sit on the xmas table flashing away. A friend of mine was so impressed with the basic operation she asked me to build her one for her teenage son. I'd add it's also a great opportunity for those new to the pi to start working with LEDs and python programming to create different flashing sequences - Much more fun than just sticking LEDs into a breadboard

I have both versions of this tree, I bought the presoldered tree last year and the solder kit this year. I have swapped some of the LED’s for yellow and green ones to mix it up a bit. They are great fun items that have helped me to get more involved with coding and learn as I go along.

I went for the 3D Xmas tree "Pre-soldered kit" (as my soldering skills are not up to it), so simplicity it's self to assemble. Creating a compact unit when plugged into a Raspberry PiZeroW. What a great decoration. As I'm interested in coding, I chose to use the 'gpio' command (from 'WiringPi') in a Bash script in order to make the LEDs twinkle. Plus creating a 'systemd' service, my script starts as soon the power supply is turned on. Just magic.
