I got the pre built version. It was simple to connect, though cutting it from the support sprue needed some good cutters and a slight sanding to smooth the edges. I grabbed some demo code and for what I want this is enough. Using a pi zero to run it, set up systemd to auto run the script. Uses about 0.18A to run. So now I have a nice little sparkly Xmas tree twinkling away.

Looks nice but can be difficult to remove from frame, top light only visible from one direction, poor documentation.

Very fun and interesting especially for small children. I bought it in pre-soldered and my daughter finds sad that all LEDs are red. I'm thinking to buy another not soldered and so she can choose the color of each LED.

Ordered both a pre soldered and a kit. Arrived promptly and after soldering a header on to a pi zero they were up and running using the example code to test them. Now I just need to get a better understanding of Python to make some different patterns. So why only four stars? Well I dropped a star for two reasons 1- as all the GPIO pins are used you don't seem to be able to add a button to control light patterns. 2- One of the LED's doesn't light using the example code Other than that a great fun kit for less than £20.00 :-)

I would have given this project 5 stars, except for the following: 1) There were no instructions in the packaging 2) There should have been a small bottle of gold paint to touch-up the areas that had to be severed in order to assemble the tree 3) The tree would look so much nicer if it used multi-color LEDs instead of just red

Easy to assemble. Simple to program. Twinkly lights abound. Would be even more awesome if the LEDs were RGB.
