both bags of roe were absolutely unripe, roe harvested undeveloped, way too early. threw away both, were really unusable. i understand it’s a supplier’s fault and not The Fish Society all other products we’ve bought were always good quality.

Much, much to expensive for what you get, also a horrible red colour.

Absolutely awful, too salty and hard. I've soaked it for 24 hours but it was still too salty to eat, next 24 hours was still too salty, and the next and then it was too watery to eat or to do anything with it. It ended up in the bin.

Hello Victoria I'm pleased that we were able to resolve this issue over the phone.

Good texture, but preserved with excess salt and so when defrosted and cycled though endless bowls of cold fresh water for 24 hours after defrosting to remove the excess salt, these are STILL too salty. They do not taste like fresh roes out of a frewsh herring which is what I had hoped for; uncertain if I will rebuy when the multiple frozen packets (which arrived soft and defrosted despite the dry ice packaging, and then were refrozen, never a good idea...) have been used. Thinking further my 3 rating is generous...should really be between 2 (poor) and 3 (acceptable) but cannot rate this way.

I probably made a mistake ordering this, I really wanted herring melts which I could not find. These were very very salty indeed alas

Excellent. Herring roe, or Kazunoko, was well preserved with salt and they were rock hard frozen. I soaked them in water overnight before cleaning, and made a good ‘Matsumae Zuke.’ Thank you for making quality fish available. Japan imports fish and Sujiko from Denmark etc so I’m hoping the same fish products should be available here as well one day?
