I had my first order with the Fish Society in ealy December as a trial, having lost with great regret my excellent and reliable local source of fresh fish and sea products for the last 20 years! That was in Makro, also known as Booker, which has now been bought by Tesco who decided to simply terminate the fresh fish supply and counter, leaving in the lurch the many local restaurants, caterers, small businesses, independent convenience stores and private authorised cardholders like me! Nearest place to get good fresh fish for us, we were told, now is 40 miles away! In comes the Fish Society... The sea bass, turbot and scallops I ordered will be used over Christmas so I cannot review at this stage. They looked good in their plastic wrapping. We had the mussels and they were OK but nothing to write home about. They came as described, in a sous vide pouch with the juice they were precooked in. We felt that this spoiled the fresh mussel taste and quality, making them flavourless and some of the small sized ones a touch rubbery. So, not top mark for those I am afraid. Nothing like the fresh mussels I cook on holiday in France (from the local fish market).
