“I was disappointed that the two smokies came packaged and frozen together. They where a gift for my elderly mother who lives alone - she would have to defrost both of them to have just one”

We're sorry that you were disappointed. If your mother defrosted them for a short while and then gave them a sharp tap on a work surface, they should come apart quite easily. Since the Smokies will still be cold to the touch, it would be perfectly OK to put whatever is not required at that time back into the freezer
