Added extra bite to a wonderful prawn cocktail for a Boxing Day family lunch. Really very tasty and the quick freeze method meant these kept a very good texture. They took longer than I thought to defrost!

While nicely prepared the prawns had little to no flavour when eaten cold as part of Christmas seafood platter. Will be doing Thai curry with the two remaining packs!

The prawns arrived fully defrosted, they were at the top of the package and both packets arrived defrosted. I did not feel I could refreeze them and serve them on Christmas day to our guests so we had to eat them on the day they arrived. The items at the bottom of the package were in good condition.

Hi ***** Thanks for being a customer. I absolutely understand why you (and you are not alone) are concerned about dealing with defrosted fish. As you will recognise, in our business, defrosted deliveries are a fact of life. Only a small proportion of our consignments arrive defrosted, but this small proportion is unavoidable. However defrosts are not quite such a negative event as some customers believe. One challenging aspect of the issue is that customers often receive three or four frozen deliveries and then comes the defrosted one**. They assume something has gone wrong. I think this is where you are coming from. We invest lots of time and effort in addressing the matter of defrosted fish, starting with our (very costly) packaging which is designed to ensure that even a delivery arriving 24 hours late is still good to store in the freezer. I hope you found a leaflet discussing defrosted deliveries in your box. There is also a video on our site. And we often write emails such as this one. A key external benchmark is that all supermarkets sell defrosted fish and tell you you can freeze it when you get home. Everyone seems to accept this. Yet some customers believe they cannot refreeze our defrosted fish. I can assure you that over the last 30 years, hundreds of our customers (out of 152,000 altogether) have refrozen defrosted fish with no ill effect. I would be really grateful if you could find a couple of minutes to view the video and let me know if this (or this email) changes your understanding about this subject. And if not, to briefly relate your outstanding reservation. If you read this far, many thanks and also thanks again for being a customer. And Happy New Year. Yours sincerely Alistair Blair Founder The Fish Society **The possible explanations for an order being defrosted (even if only partially) are many and various including * outside temperature * proportion of void (empty space) in the box * amount of fish in boxtypes of fish in box (some items eg battered scampi defrost faster than others eg whole salmon) * time of day at which order delivered * length of time between delivery and opening * amount of dry ice / gel ice we put in the box (it's always a judgement)
