After using an old Berghaus rucksack for years I finally decided to update my kit for backpacking. I settled on the Osprey Talon Pro 20 (S/M) after some research and finding it for a good price at Epicentre. It arrived quickly and I took it on a short 10 miler locally loaded with my full lightweight backpacking kit - a 1.4kg tent, mattress, footprint, stove kit, headtorch, charge bank, change of clothing, sleeping bag and waterproof jacket etc. I was doubtful it would all fit,,,,, it was tight but it all went in along with a 1.2L hydration bladder. I was amazed at how comfortable the pack is (it now weighed 11 kg), it felt like it was floating on my back with all the weight perfectly loading through my hips. The 10 miles were a breeze, hardly noticed it, and it was just as good a few days later with a proper 40 miler over two days on the South Downs with an overnight camp stop. The ventilated back plate works very well in the hot weather keeping my back surprisingly cool. There are loads of adjustment possibilities with the shoulder, waist and chest straps as well as the adjustable back plate. My phone just fitted in one of the waist pockets (small iPhone SE; very unlikely you'd fit a big-screen smartphone in there). The stretch front pocket and top accessory (inside) pocket are useful but the inside mesh pocket at the top was only big enough for keys and a bank card with the pack full to max like this, although to be fair that's what it's meant for! The pack zips open vertically across the top and the zips go quite a long way down the sides so access is pretty good. It's impossible to put a full hydration bladder into the sleeve when the pack is full, you have to do it before you load anything else in but once done it's fine although I found I had to unload the contents to refill on route. My only real criticism is the two mesh pockets mounted on the front of the shoulder straps - they're really small (I put a Swiss army knife in one and a fire striker in the other). Fastened only with a popper that pops open every time you lift your arms to open a gate or put your sunglasses on, no way you'd fit a phone in there securely. I ended up leaving them empty for fear of losing the contents (probably do better with Velcro closures). Be nice if there was an inbuilt rain cover as well. The pole straps on the back are excellent but you have to take the pack off to use them. I also added a magnetic drinking tube clip as the rubber securing bands on the shoulder straps are set quite high leaving the drinking valve flapping around too much. Overall this is a well made, rugged pack that'll go anywhere. Very pleased with it.....looks good too !!

Great backpack. Nicely put together not to busy and waterproof. However it was slightly to small to wear comfortably so had to return.

Fairly pricey pack, but good deal from Epicentre. I really like this pack - very comfortable and substantially more durable than the standard Talon 22. I like the twin pole/axe loops rather than the normal stow-on-the-go loop and the YKK 'sealed' zips make the pack extra water-resistant. The couple of litres less volume is barely noticeable and I find there's still plenty of space for for my gear even on my longest winter day hikes. I was after a slimmed-down, more rugged version of my faithful Talon 22 for all-year-round day hiking and that is exactly what this pack is. I see it lasting many years and for me, its certainly worth the extra money.

This is probably the best rucksack I have owned, the size is perfect as a day sack, the hip belt system is supportive and helps transfer the weight of the sack to the hips rather than the load being carried by the shoulders, it is very well designed and the materials it is made out of appear to be premium. The supply from the Epicentre was very quick as well. Very pleased with it.
